Changing Times:
It's been said that the last 6-7 years (beyond 2005) have seen more changes than the 15 years
prior..
Maybe so. Here's a look back to the recent past

An
interesting slice in time. Shows recently appointed Chief Grimaldi as a new hire.

Going back a bit further..

We go back further still for the "commandments" posting. I'm guessing it still applies today..

Original BPD
Web Pages
probably only of interest if you remember the original web page
From the archives: Original versions of early BPD web pages (under direction of BPD) as they appeared in 2001 and 2003 before being discontinued in 2003.
BPD Web
Page Closing Notice 2003
In 1996 Chief Kohnke created the technology division headed by Sgt Russ James. Myself and James created the department's website under authority of the police dept. City Hall did not regulate the content or oversee the department's site nor was there a city website yet. It was seen as a novelty back then as it was new technology. Bristol was one of the first PD's that had a site on the internet and was first in CT. The site won critical acclaim and some net-based awards. Emails and letters praising the site were sent to the PD from as far away as Australia and the UK. As the internet evolved from being a novelty to mainstream, the city disallowed a PD run website in favor of an all encompassing City of Bristol website managed by City Hall. In 2003 the BPD site was taken off line and assigned as a subcategory on the newly formed City of Bristol site. For a short while thereafter, the PBA hosted the original BPD site and kept it running until it was no longer feasible due to lack of funding and conflicts of interest with city hall.
Exhibits here have non-functional links (with the exception of the "Memorial" Link. They are the actual html files that were published from 1996-2003. [A search continues for older versions of the very first pages from 1996]
Way back to the 70's for a rare original survivor "sheet"

| (Below) - OK, this is stupid, found it on an old clipboard so here's the story-- 1z / 3B, Russ James riding with me. When I was checking the car out in the basement he wrote me a message over a piece of paper placed on top of a warning pad knowing it would go through the carbons but not be seen. Later on I finish writing it then saw his handywork as I was walking to the guy's car. Had to re-write the whole thing HAAa. Was too funny to throw away and yes, I'm aware I write like a spaz .. Always in a rush. Where were you in 83? |
